Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom
Today our nation celebrates a remarkable milestone—250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
For two and a half centuries, America has endured wars, hardships, triumphs, and countless challenges. Through it all, generations have sacrificed so that future generations could experience the blessings of liberty.
As I watch the flags wave and hear the sound of fireworks this evening, I'm reminded that freedom has never been free. It has always been purchased through courage, sacrifice, and a willingness to stand for something greater than ourselves.
As Christians, Independence Day also gives us an opportunity to reflect on another kind of freedom.
The freedoms we enjoy as Americans are precious, but they are temporary. The freedom Christ offers is eternal.
Scripture reminds us, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." (Galatians 5:1)
True freedom isn't simply the ability to do whatever we want. It is the freedom to live with purpose, to love others, to forgive, to serve, and to walk faithfully with God. It is freedom from fear, guilt, and the burden of sin.
As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, my prayer is that we would never take either of these gifts for granted. May we honor those who came before us by living with integrity, showing kindness to our neighbors, and remembering that strong families, strong communities, and strong faith have always been part of what makes our nation resilient.
Our country isn't perfect. It never has been. Yet throughout our history, Americans have continually risen to meet difficult moments with determination and hope. I believe that same spirit still lives in the hearts of ordinary people who choose compassion over division, truth over fear, and faith over despair.
Those very themes inspired me as I wrote my newly released novel, Return to Home. While it is a work of fiction, its heart asks a timeless question: When everything around us begins to crumble, where do we turn? My hope is that readers will be reminded that our greatest strength has never been found in our circumstances, but in our faith, our families, and the God who walks beside us through every trial.
